Program Goal

To promote holistic health and provide necessary support for physical and mental well-being.

Program Components

Wellness Clinics

Partner with Institutions (Hospitals) for free/low-cost health screening clinics (blood pressure, diabetes, etc.).

Nutrition and Food Security

Offers Food Bank Services to provide culturally appropriate food for our community members

Addiction Support Groups

Establish regular, confidential peer support meetings for individuals facing addictions, ensuring Confidentiality.

Mental Health First Aid

Train staff and volunteers in basic mental health first aid; refer complex cases to specialized partners.

Program Goal

Provide confidential, professional mental and emotional care, especially focusing on trauma.

Program Components

Trauma-Informed Services

Establish a formalized intake process that prioritizes a trauma-informed approach.

Family & Group Care

Set up weekly family counseling and specialized group therapy sessions focused on common newcomer challenges (e.g., job loss, cultural adjustment).

Referral Network

Develop Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with specialized Hospitals and therapy providers for high-need clients.

Facilitate smooth integration for newcomers and help vulnerable individuals access critical resources.

System Navigation

Train settlement workers to guide clients (Refugees & Newcomers) through complex Canadian systems (Healthcare, Education, Social Services).

Housing Support

Partner with Government Housing agencies and community organizations to offer assistance with housing applications and tenancy issues.

Legal Aid Clinics

Collaborate with Community organizations (Legal Aid) to hold free monthly clinics for immigration, tenant rights, and other legal questions.

Provide tools and knowledge for economic and social empowerment.

Career Guidance & Mentorship

Establish a mentorship program linking established Employers with students and job-seeking members for career advice.

Literacy & Language Support

Offer basic English/French literacy and computer literacy classes, especially targeting elders and vulnerable populations.

Financial Literacy Workshops

Offer workshops on banking, credit management (crucial given your personal experience), and tax clinics.

Promote culture and diversity and create inclusive spaces for connection.

Plan events (e.g., Ugandan Independence Day, cultural festivals) to bring the community together and celebrate heritage.

Recreation & Sports

Organize regular recreational activities for Youth and Families, utilizing local facilities (Schools).

Talent Development

Create a space for artistic and talent development, offering workshops for youth and children.

To advocate for vulnerable populations and provide conflict resolution services.

Elders Forum Support

Formalize regular meetings and support the Elders Forum in their role to advise on and mediate community issues.

Low-Income & Newcomer Advocacy

Create a dedicated resource to help low-income individuals navigate applications for OW and ODSP and understand their community rights.

Disability Support

Establish a targeted outreach program for People with disabilities to ensure access to appropriate services and supports.
